Why use cannabis-based lubricants?

Friesen says that since the genitals have weak membranes, THC might reach the circulation if utilized. “As a result, CBD is a safer alternative for anybody who wants to avoid THC”. In a similar vein, warned that unlike most topicals applied to the skin, using a THC-containing lubricant may result in a positive Drug Screen.

Condoms, contraceptive diaphragms, dental dams, latex gloves, and any latex goods, even those based on the recipes below, may spring holes and destroy by oil-based lubricants. Lubricants that exist water-based or silicone-based do not damage latex materials.

Recipe for THC lube;

THC yields are about 6mg per 1mL cannabis oil or lube.

Manta’s two-ingredient lube contains THC, and she recommends that while preparing and using the lubricant, keep the dose in mind. Don’t go overboard.

• 8 oz. fractionated (liquid) coconut oil or MCT oil
• 14 oz. high-grade floral oil (third-party tested and free of pesticides, molds, etc.) Supplies
• Food scale
• Two 4oz mason jars
• Unbleached cheesecloth
• Big funnel
• Smaller funnel
• Tincture container with a 1 mL calibrated pipette
• boiling water
• Grinder or food processor
• Slow cooker with a warm setting
• Unbleached cheesecloth (enough to cover the mason jars in the slow cooker)

Directions;

1. Gather your materials.
2. Use a food processor (preferable) or a grinder to ground the cannabis.
3. Use this approach to activate (decarboxylase) your THC: Spread the ground cannabis evenly on a cookie dish and bake for one hour on the second rack at 220-245 degrees Fahrenheit (105-120 degrees Celsius). After 30 minutes, stir the herb.
4. Divide the cannabis equally between each 4oz Mason jar after decarboxylase.
5. Pour the oil into each jar equally over the pulverized flower.
6. Tighten jar lids – Make sure the Mason jar lid is as tight as possible.
7. Fill the slow cooker halfway with water, ensuring the mason jars are completely immersed.
8. Cook for four to five hours on “warm” in a slow cooker.
9. Remove the jars from the oven and give them a vigorous shake every 60 minutes, using a jar clamp or heavy oven gloves. Because the glass and metal will be hot, take caution not to burn yourself!
10. Remove the jars from the water after 4-5 hours and set them on a towel to cool (do not place them on a cold/hard surface as the glass may fracture).
11. Place a funnel over a big glass measuring cup with a pour spout and line it with four layers of cheesecloth.
12. Carefully pour the cooled liquid through the cheesecloth, one layer at a time. Squeeze out any remaining plant debris using the cheesecloth. Your strained oil will have a tiny green tint to it.
13. Pour the oil into a tincture bottle with a 1 mL graduated pipette using a smaller funnel.

Recipe for CBD lube;

William Johnson, a formulation scientist at Bardot Labs, a boutique extraction and production lab in upstate New York, has developed a CBD lubricant with a blend of other natural hydrating, protecting, and nourishing.

Castor oil, for example, thickens the product while also having calming effects. In contrast, pomegranate seed oil contains pumice acid, a fatty acid that serves as a free radical scavenger while supporting tissue healing and restoration. 

Storage and packaging;

“The difficulty with items packed in jars,” Johnson explains, “is that people tend to poke their fingers into the pot, contaminating the product with microorganisms from the fingers (even after cleaning).” 

What is the solution?

Instead of using your finger, use a little spatula. Another disadvantage of jar packing is that it facilitates oxidation (or rancidity). “Because the jar exposes the formula to air and light with each usage, it fosters rapid oxidation”. Keep in mind that when active chemicals are exposed to air regularly, they may lose their efficacy. One of the biggest advantages of making your lubricant and utilizing a jar is that the container is recyclable. If you’ve kept it in the fridge, bring it to room temperature before using it.

Decarboxylation’s Importance;

It’s simple: heating activates cannabinoids through decarboxylation (i.e., THC-A becomes delta 8 THC). “Because THC is a powerhouse vasodilator, and allows more oxygenated blood to flow to the area on which it’s applied, and enhances sensation and helps relax the muscles and tissue”, Johnson says, “this process is essential to introduce the most active cannabis lube compounds into topical like lubrication”.

Friesen agrees, adding, “This conversion is also essential to experience the intoxicating effects of cannabis; and, raw cannabis does not result in intoxication without this conversion”. However, since each cannabinoid and terrene has a particular decarboxylation temperature; and propensity to destroy when exposed to high heat, the procedure may be rather difficult.
