How to find and use runes?

Runes are special items that can inserted into socketed items to grant them additional properties. They can be found as drops from monsters, chests, or other sources, or traded with other players.

There are 33 different runes in Diablo 2 Resurrected, ranging from El (the lowest) to Zod (the highest). The higher the rune, the rarer and more powerful it is. Runes can also upgraded by using a Horadric Cube recipe, which requires three runes of the same type and a gem. Runes can used individually or combined with other runes to create runewords. To use a rune, you need to have a socketed item with enough empty sockets for the rune (or runeword). You can find socketed items as drops or rewards, or add sockets to normal items by using a Horadric Cube recipe or a quest reward from Larzuk in Act 5.

• Runewords are specific combinations of runes that grant unique bonuses and effects to the socketed items. They can only create non-magical (white) items with exactly the same number and type of sockets as the runeword requires.
• For example, if you want to create the runeword “Spirit”, which requires four sockets and four runes (Tal + Thul + Ort + Amn), you need to find a non-magical sword or shield that has four sockets. Then, you need to insert the runes in the exact order specified by the runeword formula.
• To use a runeword, you need to equip the socketed item that contains it. The item will display its name in gold and show its enhanced properties. Some runewords also have level requirements or class restrictions, so make sure you meet them before using them.
